London comes in many forms – old stuck in the middle of new and new stuck in the middle of old – here are two of my favs:
LASSCO: Brunswick House
30 Wandsworth Road, Vauxhall, London SW8 2LG, Tel: +44 (0) 20 7394 2100
Stuck in one of the ugliest roundabouts in London is the lovely Brunswick House, a listed Georgian mansion and former home to the Dukes of Brunswick. According to wikipedia, it was “built in 1758, it once stood in three acres of riverside parkland…The building was in a state of disrepair and was on the English Heritage ‘Buildings at Risk’ list until it was acquired by LASSCO (The London Architectural Salvage and Supply Company).”
I was taken there by someone who knows great things and it didn’t disappoint. Amongst the architectural remnants for sale inside is the most amazing cafe and if the toast is anything to go by (I actually asked for a doggie-bag for the toast I had not eaten!), then dinner will be more than a treat. Can’t wait to go back!
THE CHAIJITO at DISHOOM
12 Upper St Martin’s Lane, London WC2 Tel: 020 7420 9320
We were in heaven with having five drinks between three of us to share – we just couldn’t decide because they all sounded so good. Waiting for what turned out to be a scrumptious dinner of delicious Indian cafe food, we turned our attentions to the drinks before us. My favorite was the Chaijito made with Chai Tea infused rum and the rest of the mojito mixin’s ! It was a great night – and we were fine the next day.
