For a relatively small island country, the UK is jam-packed with loads of stuff to see. While most people barely venture out of London, there are plenty of different potential road trip destinations. This is ideal for a brief weekend trip or possibly a longer adventure. Here are a few of the sights to see and places to visit.
Scotland
Scotland is full of empty roads and wonderful places to visit. You can take in the scenery and visit places of interest along the way. Even better, if you look into motorhome hire, it might be the cheapest option for sleeping as you travel.
This is because Scotland has different wild camping rules, allowing you to stop and camp wherever you like. While you do still need to be considerate about where you stop and sleep, you are a lot more free to explore different routes.
While you can’t drink and drive, it could be a nice idea to do a distillery tour. One option is to switch drivers each day so everyone can have an opportunity to visit different distilleries and try a few drams.
Ireland
Both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland feature some stunning places to visit, but many Brits find Northern Ireland easier to go to. This is simply because you don’t need a passport to go to Northern Ireland and you can use the same currency as in the rest of the UK.
While Northern Ireland is small, it’s beautiful. You can have a quick road trip to take in a lot of the sights over a long weekend, including County Antrim and the Giant’s Causeway itself. Make sure to take plenty of photographs and pack an umbrella. There’s a reason Ireland is famously green and lush.
Wales
Sometimes people make the mistake of thinking that Wales is basically part of England, but that would be a terrible misconception to make. Wales has its own language, culture, and history, and it’s all well worth exploring.
Thankfully, because Wales is relatively small, you can see a lot in about a week or so. It’s not the same as really taking your time to soak in the history, but you can definitely get a taste of Wales and plan where you want to stay for longer when you visit next time.
Make sure that you explore the coastline and try to visit some castles along the way.
England
Finally, you can’t explore the roads of the United Kingdom without looking at England. England is the largest country in the UK, and it has plenty to offer outside of the major cities. The English countryside is varied and wonderful.
Whether you want to explore the coastlines or you’d rather drive over hills, forests, and through winding roads, there’s a lot to see and do in England. You can visit the castles, pop into towns and villages as you travel, or simply take in the stunning scenery on the English roads.
